The DJ with a heart

Na-touch talaga ako sa interview na’to. I believe DJTaro is one of the most responsible Audistas I’ve met. I feel a certain attachment to her kase, ate at gamer din ako. Knowing someone like her who, despite her work schedule, still finds time to take care of her siblings and at the same time maintain her good standing in the community is truly inspiring. Di lang s’ya exceptional in-game, bonggang-bongga rin s’ya IRL!

Read on as DJTaro shares her thoughts about responsibility, enjoying life and being exceptional.

Me: Can you tell us about your character and why did you create it that way?

DJTaro: I have two main characters. The first one is my original character, Remelia, and the second is DJTaro, which I made when I joined Club DJ. Back then, there was no change nick rule for Club DJ applicants so DJLhime allowed me to make a new account for the club. Both of them are dark-skinned. I made them so because I didn't want to have a lot of other players who looked like me. Another reason was because I didn't want to get hit on. Lol.

Me: What drew you to Audition?

DJTaro: My younger brother and I are both gamers. At first, we played RAN Online, then O2Jam. When Audition came, we decided to try it. We stayed in ADB because we liked the music and it wasn't as tiring as O2Jam. Also, we both had clubs that were fun to hang out with online. ^^

Me: How long have you been playing Audition?

DJTaro: I'm not really sure...two years? I can't remember when I started.

Me: How was it when you were just starting out?

DJTaro: It was actually fun. Even though I got insulted a lot because my character was dark-skinned, I'd just leave a room and play somewhere else. It was hard as hell getting past Level 7 choreo at 100bpm. I laugh whenever I remember how amazed I was before when I see people who could play at 120bpm. It was fun because everything was new to me and there were as many friendly people as there were mean ones. It's kinda sad that nowadays you can't get through a day of playing with strangers without being called a bot or encountering one.

Me: What's your favorite mode in Audition?

DJTaro: D8? Maybe not my favorite but it's the one I play the most so my fingers are used to it. I just mess up in other modes. I'd like Sports Dance better if not for the lag. ~_~

Me: How about your favorite Audition song and why?

DJTaro: Sexy Guy- Space A...coz that's my song for DJLhime.

Me: Do you have a club? Can you tell me about it?

DJTaro: ClubDJ, founded by DJLhime. According to the catalog, it's the first club to have uniform names. Name format is DJ+name of fruit or spice. It started out with just a group of people from the Tambayan computer shop in Cainta, Rizal. At first, DJLhime wanted to keep it that way but DJCola was so persistent that he had to give in. So they opened applications and the club grew. Unlike the famous clubs from that time that held tests for applicants, DJLhime just interviewed applicants. Also, while there are a lot of good players in ClubDJ, it was more popular for being a Fashionista club, having had consecutive wins in the Fashionista contest.

Me: Do you have any memorable experiences in Audition? Can you tell me about them?

DJTaro: Online experience would have to be ClubDJ's Challenge-A-DJ contest, which I handled. I planned for the contest to be as a way for the DJs to mingle with the community since we had been accused of being snobs for always playing by ourselves. Unfortunately, I didn't expect so many players would join and there were a lot of problems with schedules. I spent weeks "training" for the challenge I received but I ended up losing miserably. But it all worked out in the end. It was fun since we had an excuse to chat with people from other clubs.

Me: When you're not playing Audition, what do you do?

DJTaro: Let's see…I watch anime, play console games, sleep, read novels, write fiction, tinker with my Photoshop, etc. I was also part of some fansubbing groups for a while but I couldn't work out the schedules so I had to quit.

Me: You're currently working as a writer, right? Do you still play Audition? How do you manage your time?

DJTaro: I'm a freelance writer. I've also done a bit of PR and advertising in real estate. ^^ Being a freelance writer gives me a pretty flexible schedule. I used to be online for at least five hours a day but since I have more responsibilities now, I just play when I don't have any deadlines.

Me: Can you describe to me your typical day? Like how do you start the day, what do you do next and other stuff until you call it a day.

DJTaro: I need to check the news often and read a lot because it's part of my job. I also cook for my siblings since I'm the eldest and they won't eat properly if I just leave them money. I meditate in the morning because I have a short temper. Doing so helps me keep cool throughout the day. I do the same at night to leave the day behind so I can start a new one when I wake up. All my PC stuff, I do when I get home after my siblings are done with their business. I have to let them use the PC first because they have school.

Me: For you, what makes you exceptional as an Audista?

DJTaro: I actually like the use of the word "exceptional" for this because it doesn't necessarily mean "superior" but rather "one that stands out". When I saw the other two nominees, I honestly thought they had better qualifications. I have had my share of stand-out moments in Audition and e-Games Forums, not all of them were good. I think I'm an exceptional Audista because I have always done things my own way and accepted the consequences. (Other than that, I'm exceptionally lucky for being associated with a lot of popular people which, I think, is the real reason why I'm popular. ~_~)

Me: I remember that you were also the first player with a black character to have won the Audista Fashionista award. Can you tell us about the experience?

DJTaro: It's really one of the things I'm proud of because, as a stiffy with a funny nose and fat lips, I got ridiculed a lot. It had always been my goal to show that skin color has nothing to do with looking good. Although I admit finding clothes that fit dark skin well was a challenge. ~_~

Me: What’s your message to your fellow DJs and the rest of the community?

DJTaro: Hmm…my message to fellow DJs and Audistas:

Don't let people influence you, instead actively choose what you want to learn from them and own it. Always enjoy your life. Remember, you don't live to work, you work to live. ^^
